Balloon Rocket Challenge
The Challenge
Design a balloon rocket that can travel further than any other balloon rocket in the room.
Objective 1: Gather the Following Supplies
1 Length of string
1 Roll of masking tape
1 Bumpy balloon
1 Balloon pump
1 Drinking straw
1 Pair of scissors
1 Tape measure
1 Regular Balloon
Objective 2: Assemble the Balloon Rocket
1. Cut the straw to a desired length
2. Tape the Bumpy Balloon to the straw using the masking tape
3. Pull one end of the string through the straw
4. Tape one end to the wall with duct tape
5. Have one team member hold the loose end
Objective 3: Fly the Balloon Rocket
1. Inflate a balloon but DO NOT seal the opening
2. Hold the opening to the balloon closed
3. Release the balloon and let fly!
You might not get great results the first time you release the balloon, so you should try it many times.
Objective 4: Share Your Results
Objective 5: Balloon Experiments
Gather the following information in your journal.
For the most accurate results, you might want to try each test a couple of times and take the average of your results.
You might also find something else you can change. If so, try it out!!
